On Saturday, January 25th in the evening, we blessed the sacristy of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ústí nad Orlicí after its completion. Everyone who participated in its restoration—ranging from the involved companies to all the volunteers and workers who dedicated many hours of volunteer work—was invited to this celebration. After the festive blessing and the subsequent holy mass, we were able to thoroughly inspect the sacristy. The celebration then continued with refreshments at the deanery.
The sacristy is a very important space in the church, as it stores everything necessary for the mass and is where those who assist with the liturgy gather and prepare. This sacristy was built 119 years ago. Its condition (primarily due to moisture) no longer met today's requirements. The restoration of the sacristy began to take shape in vague outlines at the beginning of 2022. The repairs started in February 2023, and by the end of October 2024, the era of standard operation of the newly restored sacristy will commence.
Therefore, I would like to thank everyone who got involved in the repairs. Whether through financial support, project work, consultations, all construction and craft activities, or cleaning the church after individual volunteer days... simply to everyone who dedicated any time and energy to this cause.
For me personally, the greatest encouragement is not the outcome of the work itself, but rather how many people contributed to this project. And for that, you all deserve a heartfelt God bless you. And believe me, He does.
With gratitude, P. Jenda
A few factual notes:
Over 70 people of various generations participated in all kinds of work.
A lot of things were done voluntarily or, although perhaps for money, only because it was work for the church.
The city of Ústí, Pardubice Region, the ČEZ Foundation (the most significant contributor), and many parishioners in a collection contributed, the results of which we tried to show in real time on the bulletin board in the church.
The total value of the project (including the volunteer work) is more than 2.5 million crowns. You can see the scope of the work in the link below.
